Morvonids Disease

Transmission & Vectors

The disease comes from the myconids whose spores are spread in the overworld by fungi found in the deep, overgrown forests of Morventhal. The deeper you get the thicker the air becomes and the colors blend together. Once infected, the creature won’t infect others around them until fully transformed into a Myconids spore servant. When transformed, the creatures blood contaminates other creatures around creating a disease which spreads fast and is hard to miss.

Causes

The original cause of this disease are the fungi growing deep in the forests of Morventhal. The first infected brought it back to civilization and started infecting others. This has lead the disease to spread greatly, eventually creating a hopeless feeling to anyone effected, although it is curable.

Symptoms

Symptoms include: loss of memory, loss of control, stopping mid speech, zoning out, answering thin air (in actuality, myconids calling to them), wandering of, and eventually, a zombie-like state where they wander aimlessly and slowly, attacking people in their surroundings out of fear.

Treatment

There are treatment centers in all the big cities of Ebrek. This disease is the one thing keeping the nations unified. It takes several Magic users to slowly drain and lead the spores out of the victims body. This treatment takes a few weeks to complete, and bring the victim to stable state. Once stable, the victim can leave and is free to visit any treatment center for free check-up.

Prognosis

If gone untreated, the creature is likely to wander all the way to Morventhal, where it might wander in the forest or descend into the underdark where the myconids are waiting for there servant to come. As soon as you believe someone is affected by Morvonids Disease they should be brought to a treatment center so they can be treated. The faster they are brought to one the less treatment they will need and the less it might cost you.

Affected Groups

All living things are affected by this, including animals. Forest gnomes, particularly those living in Morventhal Forest, are unaffected, believed to be some sort of immunity developed by living in the forest. Other unaffected beings are constructs, elementals, oozes, plants, undead, etc. Beings who aren’t considered to made out of flesh and blood, cannot be affected.

Hosts & Carriers

The spores are made naturally by the fungi deep in the overgrown forests of Morventhal. The spores can also be let out by Myconids. Fungi developed after years of contact by a passage to the underdark. The Myconids cannot release the spore servants and weren’t directly responsible for their creation. It is believed that the fungi has developed a sense of sentience apart from the Myconids, though still being apart of them.

Prevention

If you are wearing something that covers your airways you cannot be affected by the spores. However, the blood should not come in contact with anything that directly puts it in your bloodstream, such as eyes, nose or mouth, but on skin or clothes you only need to wash it off.

Cultural Reception

The affected creatures of this disease, fully transformed into spore servants are often times not touched and are left to wander away, as many people fear to themselves be infected. There are, however, organizations who go around Ebrek, catching affected creatures and bringing them to treatment centers, where they are later released to wherever they came from.
