Sword of Tariak

Manufacturing process

First, the bronze needed to be cast. Then, the blade was sharpened and polished. Next, the wooden grip was ground down and attached, before the silver pins were hammered. The golden bands were then similarly beat into place. After being used in battle, the blade was resharpened and polished to Tariak's content.

Significance

The weapon belonged to Tariak, one of the greatest heroes of the Natiawa people. He wielded it against his enemies for more than twenty years. Most famously, he fought in the War of Vengeance and its associated myths. According to legend, the beloved son of Klinas - Tariak's brother, had been poisoned at a feast in the palace . The Axun was furious. He clamored for revenge against the dishonorable Mykanas, Axun of the . He gathered his men, those of his brother, and all their allies and marched in force to the city of Arnamon. They laid siege to it, failed to breach the walls, and left. Fuming with rage, Tariak's brother commanded the alliance to march next summer to lay siege once again to Arnamon. When some refused, Tariak dueled them to resolve the issue and bring them back into the alliance. Thousands of men and hundreds of chariots returned beneath the walls of Arnamon. Klinas' death, the army breached the walls and sacked both the palace and the city beneath. All valuables were stripped away, any surviving men killed, and the women and children enslaved.

The bronze blade was nearly seven hands long and one hand across at its widest point. Both tang and blade are cast from the same piece of metal. Around the tang are two sections of pale wood imported from the frigid and exotic north. The grip was secured with silver pins, rather than the copper ones typically used in sword making. The hilt was decorated with bands of gold. It was indeed a sword fit for an Axun of the Natiawa.
