Firhusk medicine/drug

Firhusk leaf medicine works wonders on the Elven populations for curing bruises. However the same leaf medicine has odd and some times severe side effects for shifters. Halves, half shifter half elf, also avoid using it as sometimes it works sometimes they get the side effects. The side effects include: Diarrhea Headache Hives Nausea and vomiting rash The rarer side effect is swelling     Depending on the age and how much has been used depends on the severity of the side effects. In the very young it causes them to break out in hives and cause trouble with breathing which can result in death. Youth and middle age it ranges from diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and headache. They recover quickly form it. The elderly most of the time they end up with rashes, headaches and diarrhea. If the rashes continue they can develop many sores that will get infected and can cause death. Also if not kept hydrated from the diarrhea they can also die from dehydration. The more severe side effects are very rare and can be the most cause for concern in all ages. The swelling can cause airways to close up and prevent breathing. The swelling can occur in the internal organs, causing damage to them.   The reaction to the Firhusk leaf can also be made worse by the condition that it is being use to try to cure. Most shifters and halves do not use Firhusk leaf but the Firhusk bark as medicine.   A drug had also been found but only found in the wood of the Curly Firhusk. While the bark is deadly the wood only has part of the poison.   A young elf apprentice to a dexter that specialized in Curly Firhusk dying found out the wood caused some rather interesting mind altering effects along with the mild side effects. He found this when he handled the wood for disposable after the bark had been removed. So to experiment more the apprentice took some of the wood and dried it out before shaving it. He then took the shavings and chewed on it. He found that it did not create the mind altering effects but did create the side effects as if a shifter had used the Firhusk leaf medicine. The effect only lasted a day. As a result some try to get it to simulate illness or to scare rivals and such. It is very hard to get, can be deadly to gather and is expensive.
