Verdigris Barbs

Tasked with the protection of the Greenthrone family, the Verdigris Barbs are immediately recognized for the distinctive stripes on their garb. Rarely seen unless there is an active threat to the family, the Barbs work tirelessly behind the scenes. Their number is unknown outside the Greenthrones. The Barbs also act as an extension of the will of the head of the family, Rabal. Each Barb, in their own right, is also the head of a cabal of operatives. It is said the Greenthrone empire reaches farther than mere kingdoms. The Barbs act on the interests of Rabal. Though the Greenthrone Coster is just a memory, it set the foundation for the, now, underground Greenthrone empire. Many of the Barbs live with two or more identities and often fill roles as undercover agents. It is said that whenever a decision is made, it is heard by the ears of the Verdigris Barbs. Lords spend a great deal of money in attempting to keep Barbs out of their councils. It always seems as though Rabal stays one step ahead and finds ways for the Barbs to get into the most privy of places. An ugly truth is also the number of assassinations and kidnappings the Barbs have either carried out or made possible. All in the name of protecting the family. Because of this reputation, even though the illicit markets attract the more sinister part of the population, they are very orderly places. A disturbance that disrupts business will be corrected quickly and harshly. Disputes are either civil, including a mediator if necessary, or handled elsewhere. It is no shame to have a Barb mediate the argument. Better to have one see to a peaceful resolution that cannot be disputed. That does not mean Barbs are easy to find or at anyone’s call other than Rabal and his family.
