The Feast of Community

The various clans of Ovidan have gone mostly unchanged since before the Hellgate. While they are nomads separated into clans, they remain a community that can be depended upon to help those in need. Once a year, at the Autumn Solstice, they come together to share food and stories, ending with blessing for great bounty and success in the coming year.     -Orbri Cobbleshort, gnomish sage

History

This event has been occurring since anyone can remember. Nobody knows who or what started it, just that it has always been their way. It has remained mostly unchanged throughout the centuries, although on occasion, major weather events and natural disasters have forced the Ovidanians to improvise.

Execution

Clans in each region meet in the same locations every year, with the intent that the feast start on the Autumn solstice. Each year, two clans, on a rotating schedule, arrive first and begin to set things up. These clans bring the necessary supplies that might be needed that year, and each member of the clan has his or her own jobs assigned to make it all run smoothly.   During the days spent, many will also engage in athletic competitions, and there are plenty of games for the children, some of which include prizes. Hunting parties will be sent out as well, different clans mixed together to enhance the sense of community.

Components and tools

The main component of the feast is, as is to be expected, food. All clans bring what they have hunted and foraged to donate to the feast, with some of the hunting being done en route. There are no requirements as to how much different clans bring, because it is understood that some will have better luck some years and worse others. There is no judgement allowed.

Participants

Every member of the clan participates to one extent or another, save the very young or the infirm. The leaders of the two clans who arrived first will lead throughout the time there, and will be the first to respond should there be trouble. The shamans of those tribes lead the blessing for a safe and bountiful year to come.
