Arosnir's Gem

Arosnir's gem was a meteorite that fell from the sky in the early days of humanity. It landed in the northern coastal forests of Skandia long before the humans that would form the Valsgardi Empire ever left its shores.   The shamans believed it to be a gift of power from the gods, and many sought to find it. None agreed if the gift was of good nature or evil nature, and the people who lived near the location where it landed feared the fire in the sky and believed it to have brought darkness.   Arosnir was a Skandi teenager who believed finding this stone was his only opportunity to prove his worth, and achieve glory. His desperation has been credited as the only reason he was able to get close enough to the object without succumbing to its power, and dying a painful death.   However, the instant that he touched the stone, it transformed him into a giant bear, that destroyed an entire village before disappearing into the forest never to be seen again. Because of this transformation, history has linked this so called gift from the gods, to the Skandi god of destruction, the bear god Hrktos.   Despite the warnings of folklore and cautionary tales, countless young men and women have gone out into the wilds of the northern forests in search of Arosnir, or what is left of him, and his gem. The power of a god is alluring, despite the warnings about the cost of power.
