Solarpunks

People who wish to escape ネオンしま Neonshima for the better life of せたいしま Setaishima are commonly known as Solarpunks.
These people are often frowned upon as cowards, traitors or scum by the general populace. Although, the mass media constantly insisting they are these things certainly isn't helping.

Ideals

Solarpunks wish for their city of Neonshima to become more like Setaishima, or at the very least escape to it. The desire to be able to afford creature comforts without having to sign one's life away, to not be encouraged to buy fast fashion, and to reduce environmental impact. Of course, these are directly in opposition to the social norms of Neonshima, of extreme capitalism.
As such, Solarpunks tend to make products last as long as possible, which is either quite difficult or simply not doable. They encourage others to walk more and use high-tech fuel-guzzling hovercars less. Some of the more bold Solarpunks have sabotaged major companies. They are either caught, or must remain in hiding for the rest of their lives. They often believe it is worth it.

Disappearances

Solarpunks have been recorded to go missing. There are only 3 main explanations as to why. They either amassed enough money to buy their way out of Neonshima, which is wholly unrealistic; they escaped past the border, which is somewhat more plausible but still unlikely; or they were killed for having non-conformative views. This is the most believed story, although everyone doesn't say it overtly in fear they'd be next.
As such a suppressed culture, Solarpunks have gone underground, literally. Digging tunnels filled with plants, and offering only the most trusted to breathe the fresh air within them. These are especially busy when the Vents are opened, releasing another dose of toxic smog into the city.
