Fairy Breeder

Career

Career Progression

Breeders go through a long period of onboarding, learning a wide variety of tangential skills related to the care, feeding, breeding of the fairies and the production processes for pixie dust.

Payment & Reimbursement

Breeders turn a healthy profit, plus all living expenses are covered while living in the Fount.

Other Benefits

Within the guild doing this job well brings a lot of social standing and respect, especially with how lucrative it is becoming. Outside of the guild though this profession is now one that carries the burden of shame and persecution given the nefarious purpose they've been put to.

Perception

Purpose

Breeding and raising fairies, as well as farming and harvesting the raw dust they shed and refining it into the final sellable 'pixie dust' product.

Social Status

Loathed by all of law abiding society, loved by their guild, lamented by the many addicts they'll never meet.

Operations

Workplace

After being forced out of decent society, branded villains as any beneficial properties of the dust were disregarded. When the practice was banned all Fairy breeding operations were shutdown throughout the empire with the except of the one that really mattered, the pixie dust manufacturing village of Fairy Fount. Those willing to put their now scorned profession to the unseemly task quietly get recruited and relocated to the village.

Dangers & Hazards

The profession itself is relatively safe, fairies don't pose much if any threat even in large numbers. Though should the Keepers ever find Fairy Fount, anyone and everyone living in that village should definitely consider themselves in a hazardous work environment to put it mildly.
Alternative Names
Dust Drainer, Laugh Stealer
Type
Illicit
Demand
The demand for those skilled and willing is quite high, but the number of available roles is quite small given the off the books nature of the profession.
Legality
Once the non-medicinal and non-arcane uses of fairy dust byproducts were discovered all professions relating to the collection of dust whether fairy trapping, breeding, dust production. The whole industry was deemed illegal as the practices were being abused and causing societal considerable harm. Of course this only exacerbated the problem as many of the legitimate practitioners shifted into the only remaining industry, the illicit one.
